TURNSTUDIO: 2-Day Platter and Surface Design Workshop, August 22 & 23, 10-3:00

TURNSTUDIO: 2-Day Platter and Surface Design Workshop, August 22 & 23, 10-3:00
2-Day Platter & Surface Design Workshop
Instructor: Kenny Sing (TURNSTUDIO)
Dates: August 22 & 23
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (30-minute lunch break)
Experience Level: Intermediate (pottery experience required)
Workshop Overview
This two-day intensive explores both form and surface—guiding participants through the process of throwing larger, wider vessels and applying precise surface design using analog stencil techniques.
Day 1 focuses on throwing wide bowl and platter forms, with an emphasis on control, structure, and scale. Day 2 shifts into surface design, where participants will learn how to measure curved forms and create custom stencils for techniques such as water etching and stenciled glazing.
While Kenny’s work often incorporates digital processes, this workshop is entirely analog and accessible—no technical experience required. Participants will leave with new approaches to both form-making and surface development, and a deeper understanding of how the two work together.
What You’ll Learn
Techniques for throwing larger, wider forms on the wheel
Strategies for maintaining structure and consistency at scale
Methods for measuring curved surfaces accurately
How to design and hand-cut custom stencils
Application of slips and glazes using stencil techniques

Firing & Finishing
Why Bisque Firing?
Bisque firing strengthens your work, making it safer to transport and easier to glaze. Prior to firing, pieces are in a fragile greenware state and highly susceptible to breakage.
Glaze Firing Option
Glaze firing is offered as an add-on for those who would like their work fully completed by the studio.
Glaze Pass
Participants who purchase the full package will receive one glaze pass, which provides:
Access to studio space during open studio hours (Sat & Sun, 12–5 PM)
Use of studio glazes
We will notify you once your pieces have completed bisque firing and are ready for glazing.
Glaze sessions must be booked in advance.
Participants are responsible for proper glaze application. Improper use of glaze may result in surface defects or damage during firing.
Glaze Timing & Pickup Policy
Once notified that your pieces are ready (following bisque firing), glaze passes must be used within 3 weeks of the initial notification.
Pieces that are not glazed or claimed within this timeframe, and without response, will be considered abandoned.
Please ensure you register with an email address you actively monitor so we can reach you regarding your work.
Firing Timeline
Bisque firing: 10–14 days
Glaze firing: additional 7–10 days after glazing
Timelines may vary slightly depending on kiln scheduling.
Liability & Risk Acknowledgment
While Dusted and Blue takes great care in handling, loading, unloading, and firing all work, ceramics is an inherently unpredictable process.
We cannot guarantee results and are not responsible for damage that may occur, including but not limited to cracking, warping, glaze defects (such as dripping or crawling), or kiln-related issues.
