Intro to Wheel (4-Week Session)
Typically, we only offer a 6-week Intro to Wheel session — but this fall, we’re offering a special one-time, condensed 4-week version for those eager to dive into pottery with a shorter commitment.
Dusted and Blue’s Wheel Throwing Class welcomes everyone—from absolute beginners to those with some prior experience looking to refine their skills. Over this four-week session, you’ll learn the essentials of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing.
You’ll start by learning how to center clay and form simple shapes like cups and bowls. From there, we’ll move on to trimming, smoothing, and glazing your creations. Each week builds on the last, helping you gain confidence and rhythm at the wheel while discovering your own creative flow.
By the end of the session, you’ll have your own handmade pottery and a solid understanding of the wheel-throwing process — plus some new clay-loving friends along the way.
Curriculum Overview:
Week 1: Introduction to throwing — learn how to center clay and form your first cylinders.
Week 2: Continue throwing and begin trimming techniques for refining your forms.
Week 3: Trim finished pieces and experiment with simple handbuilding, such as pinch pots.
Week 4: Glazing — explore surface design and color as you finish your pieces.
This 4-week session is a shorter version of our 6-week Intro to Wheel class. It covers all the fundamentals of throwing, trimming, and glazing, but at a quicker pace. Great for students who want a focused introduction or a refresher on wheel basics.
Included in the class:
2.5 hr. weekly classes over a 4-week period
A free 12 lb bag of B Mix clay
Tools and glazes
Firing of your finished pieces
Access to open studio hours (Saturday & Sunday, 12–5 pm; sign up for 2 hours each day)
